End-user survey participants drive top ranking under the Wisdom of Crowds® methodology

SAN FRANCISCO – Wednesday, February 28, 2018 – Trifacta, the global leader in data wrangling, today announced it has been recognized by Dresner Advisory Services as the top data preparation vendor for the fourth year in a row in the 2018 End User Data Preparation Market Study. “It is an honor to be named the number one data preparation provider for the fourth year running,” said Adam Wilson, Trifacta CEO. “Having validation from a recognized leader like Dresner Advisory Services and the diverse collection of end users that fueled this ranking furthers our motivation to ensure data preparation is easy and impactful for our customers.”

To identify the critical issues experienced by end-users around data preparation , Dresner surveyed global users from July through October of 2017, which included businesses from 100 to more than 5,000 employees and across all industries. The report examined perceptions and intentions surrounding end-user data preparation, end-user requirements and features (usability, integration, output options, data manipulation, and deployment), industry support for end-user data preparation, user requirements versus industry capabilities, and vendor ratings.

“An important step towards the ongoing trend of user empowerment and self-service business intelligence, end user data preparation is driving an increasing amount of investment on both demand and supply sides of the equation,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at at Dresner Advisory Services. “We congratulate Trifacta on their ranking as the end user data preparation leader for the fourth consecutive year.”

Some additional key findings from the 2018 report are noted below that showcase where pain points continue to be for data preparation:

  • 88% of respondents say end-user data preparation is “important” with 72% saying it is “critical” or “very important”
  • Popular usability features include “immediate preview and feedback” and “visual interface.”
  • Popular integration features include access to common file formats, and ability to join and merge.
  • The top manipulation features are “ability to aggregate and group data” and “ability to pivot data.”
  • The two most popular deployment features are “ability to schedule execution/replay of data transformation” and “ability to monitor ongoing data transformation.”
  • 2018 saw an increase in favor of standalone tools for data preparation

Trifacta’s #1 ranking in the End User Data Preparation Market Study is yet another addition to its long and growing list of analyst accolades. Trifacta saw strong recognition in the 2017 Forrester Wave report, the Gartner Research Market Guide for Data Preparation, and the Bloor market study on self-service data preparation and cataloging. Trifacta has also gained significant traction on Gartner Peer Insights where, as of this release, it is ranked 4.7 out of 5 with 32 reviews.
