Metadata Repository

All Glossary Terms

A metadata repository is a database created for the purpose of storing and sharing metadata. Metadata is what describes data, what data contains, how data is structured, and where data is located within a storage device. Data warehouses use metadata repositories as roadmaps to help users quickly locate relevant data. Since metadata repositories are much smaller than full data warehouses, searching them allows data to be found much more quickly and uses less resources than querying the full contents of a warehouse.
