Data stewards are the people within an organization who ensure adherence to data laws and internally established data governance policies. Their area of responsibility addresses issues such as data quality, accessibility, usability, and security. Data stewards are the go-to-experts on data within a company, responsible for educating employees on data standards, sharing best practices, and ensuring that data resources are used consistently and properly. While “data steward” is sometimes a formal title, the responsibilities of a data steward can also be assumed on top of regular job duties.
