Data Analyst

All Glossary Terms

Data Analysts are responsible for analyzing and interpreting data to answer questions and solve business problems. Their day-to-day tasks involve collecting data that is relevant to current business questions, cleaning and transforming that data into a format that is useful for analysis, and creating reports or visualizations to help communicate their key findings.

Data analysts bring a blend of technical skills and business knowledge to the table. To effectively transform and analyze data, they must usually be familiar with database and analysis languages such as SQL, R, and Python. To help drive action based on their findings, they must understand the business issues their organizations face and have the communication skills to influence stakeholders. To create reports and visualizations that facilitate this communication, analysts must be familiar with visualization tools like Tableau and PowerBI. This combination of skills can be extremely rare, making data analysts an in-demand job that is often difficult to fill.
