Bringing a Whole New World of Connectivity to Wrangler Pro & Enterprise

November 13, 2017

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting some of the latest features we’ve added to our Wrangler products in a series of blog posts. I am excited to kick off this series by focusing on how we’ve expanded the range of data sources you can connect and publish to from within Trifacta.

The most consistent data wrangling challenge we hear from companies we work with is data diversity. The data that analysts and data scientists want to incorporate into their work doesn’t simply live in one file or database. It’s in disparate systems, it’s in the cloud, it’s in applications – the data that encompasses modern analytics workloads is everywhere!

To analyze this data, it has to first be cleaned, standardized and blended together (we like to call this wrangling). But before the wrangling can begin, users need to connect to their data so it can be incorporated into a wrangling workflow that often spans multiple input data sources and multiple output formats/repositories.

Our latest release of Wrangler Pro & Enterprise greatly expands the data sources you’re able to incorporate into a workflow as inputs and outputs. Customers are also able to “bring their own driver” to extend or customize this connectivity framework to meet their specific needs. Here is a sample of what we’re able to connect to:

  • CSV
  • JSON
  • TXT
  • Excel formats (XLS, XLSX)
  • Tableau Data Extracts

Cloud Platforms

  • AWS Ecosystem (S3, RedShift)
  • Microsoft Azure Ecosystem (ADLS, HDI)

Relational Databases

  • IBM DB2 & Informix
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • Oracle Database
  • Pivotal Greenplum
  • PostgreSQL
  • Progress Open Edge
  • SAP Sybase
  • Teradata Data Warehouse

  • Financial Force
  • Applications
  • Tableau Server

Big Data

  • Cloudera
  • Databricks
  • Hortonworks
  • MongoDB
  • DataStax

This is an area of Trifacta that we continue to focus on so look to see this list quickly expand as we accelerate our investment in this area.

In addition, we’ve also added a new connection management interface for administrators and end users with the appropriate privileges to configure, manage and share connections to different data sources (screenshot below).

If you’re interested in learning more about the expanded connectivity recently released in Trifacta, feel free to schedule a demo and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

To give Trifacta a spin on your own, sign up for our free Wrangler cloud product. It doesn’t have the connectivity or the scale support we offer in our Wrangler Pro and Enterprise offerings but will give you a sense for our differentiated user experience and workflow for wrangling messy data.

Happy Wrangling!
